CBS Adds .NCIS. Spinoff, Takes .Medium. Away From NBC

May 20 (Bloomberg) -- CBS is adding .NCIS: Los Angeles,. with Chris O.Donnell and rapper LL Cool J, and the medical drama .Three Rivers. to its prime-time line-up to bolster a schedule that is already the most popular with television viewers.

.Medium,. the supernatural detective show canceled by NBC, will air Fridays at 9 p.m. and .The Mentalist,. a top 10 hit this year, was given a second season at 10 p.m. Thursdays, New York-based CBS Corp. said today in a statement.

CBS, the last major network to release next season.s prime- time schedule, was the only large broadcaster to boost total viewers and the 18-to-49 age audience in the TV season ending this month. It also routinely claimed 5 of the top 10 spots in Nielsen.s weekly ratings.

The network.s average prime-time audience this season increased 11 percent to 11.1 million viewers a night, while viewers ages 18 to 49 advanced 4.4 percent to average 3.83 million as of May 10, according to Nielsen data.

CBS, controlled by Sumner Redstone, rose 6 cents to $7.28 at 4 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The shares has declined 11 percent this year.

Next season.s schedule is designed to draw younger viewers and more women, Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, told reporters.

NCIS Spinoff

LL Cool J will help the .NCIS. spinoff draw a younger audience, Tassler said. .The Good Wife,. on Tuesdays at 10 p.m., stars Julianna Margulies as the wife of a disgraced politician who goes back to work as an attorney. .Three Rivers,. which is set at a transplant facility in Pittsburgh, joins the lineup on Sundays at 9 p.m.

.Accidentally on Purpose,. the lone comedy addition, stars Jenna Elfman as a single woman who accidentally becomes pregnant after a one-night stand and decides to keep the baby and stay with the father, a much younger man. Executive producers include Lloyd Braun and Gail Berman.

.We had a terrific year but we still want to show growth again,. said Kelly Kahl, who oversees scheduling at CBS.

.The New Adventures of Old Christine,. a comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, was also picked up for another season. The show is produced by Time Warner Inc..s television studio. CBS canceled the crime dramas .Without a Trace. and .The Unit..

Mid-season, CBS will air the new medical drama .Miami Trauma,. from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and the police series .The Bridge,. co-produced with Canada.s CTV. CBS also produces .Flashpoint,. another crime drama, with the Canadian company that airs during the U.S. summer TV season. CBS will also air new reality shows .Arranged Marriage. and .Undercover Boss..
